What are Essential Oils?

The essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid. It contains volatile aroma compounds from plants (source). It’s obtained by distillation. Thus, has the characteristic odor of the plant it’s extracted from.

A diffuser mixes a drop of essential oil and water. The mixture then evaporates to create a beautiful and stimulating scent.

Breathing that in can help to energize and uplift you.

Also, essential oils can be used topically. But, you’ll need to dilute them with carrier oils.

After diluting the oil, place just a drop or two on the desired area. Additionally, you can use essential oils internally. Make sure they are of good quality though. That is, through food consumption or drink.

Note: do not drink an essential oil rather mix it with a liquid such as milk or tea. You can also add essential oil to your cooking to make your meals taste and smell better.

Benefits of Essential Oils

The benefits of essential oils are obvious. You can use them for personal beauty care, natural treatments and much more.

Bear in mind though that essential oils are extremely potent. That is why it’s recommended to use as little as needed.

While a drop of essential oil can be effective for aromatherapy or internal use, consuming too much of it can be harmful. But, they can help to improve immunity, treat infection, and balance hormones. So, just be aware of how you use them. Don’t overdose!

Hey Shirley!

I'm glad you're getting interested in essential oils. Aromatherapy truly has a lot of benefits! :)

When it comes to getting good essential oils - the better ones are more expensive. Especially the pure ones because it take a lot of plants to produce essential oils and that comes at a price.

Also, you would want the oils to be pressed out at lower temperatures since that saves the good properties of the plants. These sort of essential oils are more expensive too. You should really just dig deeper and see what works for you money wise. Obviously, doTERRA and Young Living essential oils are known for the high quality but they're expensive. Although, some essential oils are cheaper than the others, so definitely look into that!

Thank you for coming to my blog! Let me know if you have any more questions, Shirley!
